"To a zero emmission´s mobility"
The City Council of Granada joins from 16 to 22 September to the celebration of European Mobility Week.
Coordinated national support by the Ministry of Ecology, is a campaign aimed to sensibilize, both political responsibles and citizens, about the negative consequences that the irrational use of car in the city mean, both for public health and the environment, and the benefits of using sustainable means of transport like bicycle and foot displacements.
This initiative came up in Europe 1999 and from 2000 have the support of the European Commision. It celebrates every year, from 16 to 22 September, with activities to protome sustainable mobility and encouraging the goog manners and permanent measures.
On 22 September celebrates, appart from the event ¡The city, without cars!, origin of this new european initiative, that pretend to find new solutions to problems associated with the increasement of traffic in the cities.
Thjs year´s slogan is To a zero emmission´s mobility shows the more ambitious goals of a continent carbon-neutral for 2050, according with the President of the European Commision, after the presentation of the European Green Agreement.
Also wants to highlight the importance of accessibility of zero emmission´s transports and promote an inclusive frame where everybody is envolved.
From 2002, EUROPEANMOBILITYWEEK tried to improve public health and quality of life promoting a clean mobility and a sustainable urban transport.
This campaign gives people the opportunity to explore the rol of streets in the city and experiment practical solutions to face urban challenges, like air pollution.
It is recommended to local authorities to discuss in this european week several aspects of mobility and quality of air, find innovative solutions to reduce the use of private car and transport´s emmissiones, and use new technologies and planning measures.
Climatic change and associated environmental impacts, like floods, droughts or heat wave, are one of more imminent menace for the welfare of european people. According to París Agreement, which target is to keep global warming within a threshold of 1.5 degrees, it is crucial to achieve carbon neutrality in 2050. Carbon neutrality can be achieved thanks to a combination of methods incluiding the reduction of carbon emmissions on public and private transport, foot displacements or riding a bike.
