Granada City Council begins the 10th edition of the Cycling Educational Days
Each course increases the requests of the aforementioned conferences by the educational centers of Granada, an activity that commemorates its first decade this course.
Teachers are, who are mainly interested in promoting sustainable and healthy mobility that they wish to transmit to their students in a safe way, the first to request said activity from the Road Safety Education Center, which together with Granada al Pedal and accompaniment in the part of output of the Local Police Cycling Unit, they carry out a theoretical-practical activity whose structure consists of 4 blocks:
The route carried out is through the center of the city, with pacified streets, in Camino de Ronda (Bike Lane) ... so that they know the circulation in different types of spaces to be used by cyclists and learn the risks that implies each of them in relation to coexistence with the most vulnerable (pedestrians-bikes-PMV-motorcycles) or the rest of motor vehicles and buses.
There are already two educational centers attending this month of October:
As accident data, we start to assess and monitor the activity:
Although in 2019 there was a small rebound in the number of bicycles involved in accidents with victims, the trend of the last 6 years shows us a reduction.
It must also be taken into account that mobility in 2020 and 2021 has been reduced by the pandemic, so the number of accidents is even lower.
Regarding the severity of accidents, between 2015 and 2019 we have observed up to 4 serious injuries per year, and even one death in 2019. However, in 2020 and 2021, we did not find any serious injuries or deaths.
Since the beginning of the Cycling Day I in the 2012/2013 school year, the project has grown according to its dissemination among assistant teachers, with the number of applications being higher and higher among educational centers. This rising demand as well as the assessment of Parents asociations and teachers serve as an evaluation of the educational effectiveness of this activity.
The following table shows the incidence of COVID as well as the reduction of groups for security reasons in the COVID-19 pandemic.
In the 2020/2021 academic year, only a small number of groups were served, in order to be able to respect the capacity and the appropriate measures.
The 2021/2022 academic year, already started, has the same upward trend as the previous ones, still pending to close applications for them.
