Granada becomes the first and only city in Andalusia to introduce free transfer system between Light Rail and urban buses, managed by Rober company, that will come into force by several weeks once there have been made required technical implementations to deal with this new fase system.
City Council of Granada has make a step forward in its bet for a new public transport system integrated and of quality around the city by signing a new programme between Transport Consortium of Metropolitan Area, that will implement free transfers between both public transports in the municipal district of Granada.
The City Council of Granada, Francisco Cuenca, and the councillor of Development and Housing of Junta de Andalucía, Felipe López, have signed today a new agreement between both institutions, that will be valid until 2022, and by which the city will recieve 12.060.000 euros in the following four years.
The maximum municipal responsible has informed that the government team has decided to allocate this money to defray payment of transfers between Light Rail and urban buses, so they will be free for the residents of our city and so ease citizen the access to both transport services.
Compatibility of both means of public transport existing in Granada will be possible using the Transport Consortium of Andaluisa card from Light Rail station of Cerrillo de Maracena to PTS station giving cover both to hospital´s users and universitary people that use this mean of transport in the municipal district of Granada.
After the sign of the agreement, the Major is totally convinced that Granada has made a step pioneer and historical because of the implementation of this mean of public transport integrated and of quality thanks to the cooperation and collaboration of this City Council and other institutions, a reality far away, as he remarked from the confrontation that used to be in this City Council for many years.
Cuenca has pointed out that the main objective of this government team is to rebuild the confidence of citizens on public transport to what considers critical to improve both efficiency of the system and the use of it, so we can improve customer loyalty.
In this sense, the major has considered excelents obtained results for the moment by Light Rail, that have reached a diary average of 30.000 passengers and 900.000 a month, and, after data of the councillor of Development and Housing, it is estimated to reach commercial speed originally expected of 20.8 kilometers hour and a frequency of 8 minutes within six months.
Felipe López, has appreciated the political courage of current government team to ease citizen public transport service in a clear bet has remarked to obtain an improvement in quality of life of our cities and making them more humane and habitable.
