Granada joins Andalusian Bicycle Plan with an investment of 2.50 million euros to create more than 10 kilometers bicycle lane.

Granada joins the Andalusian Bicycle Plan to achieve the future of substainable mobility with more than 10 kilometers of bicycle lane. The Major of Granada, Francisco Cuenca, and the city council for Public Works and Buildings of Junta de Andalucía, Felipe López, have announced today the admission of the city in this new plan that until today inexplicably has been ignored, as Cuenca has regretted.
The adhesion of the City Council of Granada allow to create 10 kilometers of roads wether bicycle lanes or cycle roads, that will connect the city with the closer municipalities of the Metropolitan Area. The Andalusian Bicycle Plan El Plan Andaluz de la Bicicleta, in effect until 2020, will mean an investment in the city of 2.5 million euros, 650.000 of them belongs to local administration.
The maximum local responsible has pointed out the unwavering commitment of the city with a type of substainable mobility , where the quality of air, let us enjoy a healthier and greener Granada. Accordingly, has remarked, between measures already propelled, the incorporation to public transport of non contaminant buses, renewal of rolling stock with electric vehicles, installation of EV charging stations.
This network that the councilorship must assume will be divided in two areas; South area, of 4.6 kilometers and a starting investment of 1.1 million euros, that includes 7 routes through Sultana St., Carretera de la Zubia, Torre de la Polvora, Almaciles, Pintor Maldonado, Margarita Xirgu, Conocimiento Avenue, Torre de Comares, Méndez Núñez and Recogidas Streets. And in North area, of 6.1 kilometers and an investment of 1,4 millions, that will bring togheter five routes along Paseo de Cartuja, North Distributor, Periodista José María Carulla Street, Andalucía and El Florío Avenues and Violeta Parra Street.
Granada is a city with a great universitary tradition and so with a large population potentially user of bicycle. The route planned propose to communicate using bicyle lanes the main equipments and activity centers of the city, connecting also bicycle lanes already in use and improving their conection with metropolitan area.
The Andalusian Bicycle Plan, approved on January 2014, is one of the actions developed by andalusian Government for substainable mobility and tackle not only building road network but suplementary elements and citizen awareness and manage measures. This tool pretend that metropolitan areas of the eight capital, plus Jerez and Algeciras, to incorporate bicycle to its mobility system and represent a real alternative to private vehicel for routine displacements.
