Granada has 5 direct bus lines that connect the main streets of South and North and the outlying districts without transfer.
To the existing SN1 and SN2, there have been added Rebites-Chana(SN3), Zaidín-Chana (SN4) and the one to connect Cádiz Ave. with Parque Nueva Granada (SN5).
The city will have in november three new long-distance bus lines that connect directly and without transfer the outlying districts; lines designed by the City Council to give public transport system more utility, created as the sum of dialogue, citizen´s proposals and meeting celebrated in that respect with the district´s representatives.
As the Mobility and Citizen´s Protection council, Telesfora Ruiz, has explained this morning after setting up this new bus network in Granada on 29 june and once all regular passengers of public transport are used to it through september and october (workers, schoolchilds and university students), now it is time to make adjustments to give this system more utility.
Although there is unaninity between neighbours about the positive effects of the High Capacity Line to the enviroment of the city center, giving a fast service and a high frequency of pass, the connections between the outlying districts have the necessity of new direct lines South-North, so transfers are no needed.
So, due to citizen´s proposals and dialogue with the district´s representatives, there have been made the itineraries of the long-distance new lines and direct connection south-north, adding to those already existing SN1 (Cenes de la Vega-Bus Station) and SN2 (Palacio de Deportes-Bus Station).
The first of new lines, the SN3, the one to connect Rebites with Chana follows through Camino de los Neveros, Cervantes and Bola de Oro, getting through Camino de las Conejeras, Camino Real de los Neveros, José Tamayo,Cervantes Ave, Paseo de la Bomba, Paseo del Salón to Palacio de Congresos -Violon interchange area, where will follow through Camino de Ronda turning in Severo Ochoa and Constitucion Ave. This line continues through Andalucia Ave to the Council Office, getting through district of Periodistas going down through Sagrada Familia and Carretera de Malaga, goes back through Circunvalación de la Encina to Andalucia Ave and from this point takes the same route back to Rebites.
The second new line on duty , the SN5, also connects Zaidin and Chana, starting from Dilar Ave- to PTS when this section opens-, arrives through Pablo Picasso to Poeta Manuel de Gongora, follows through Acera del Darro turning at Recogidas, Camino de Ronda to Villarejo. Here takes Carretera de Malaga, Circunvalación de la Encina, Andalucia Ave. to the Council Office roundabout, and from here gets back through Andalucia Ave, Sagrada Familia, Carretera de Malaga to Villarejo and from this point takes the same route back to Dilar Ave.
Meanwhile, line SN5 carries out journey between Cadiz Ave and Parque Nueva Granada getting through Beethoven, Cadiz Ave, Baden Powel, Fernando de los Rios Ave and Paseo del Violon.continues through Camino de Ronda to Severo Ochoa, Constitución Ave, Ribera del Beiro, Juan Pablo II, Gobernador Pedro Temboury, Pedro Machuca, Caseria del Cerro, Fray Juan Sanchez Cotan, Julio Moreno Davila and Carretera de Alfacar to Parque Nueva Granada. In its returning itinerary gets to Caseria de Montijo, and back trhough the same itinerary to Ribera del Beiro, where crosses distrit of Doctores and lead into Constitucion Ave, Severo Ochoa, Rector Lopez Argüeta, Gran Capitan, Emperatriz Eugenia and Camino de Ronda to its starting point in Cadiz Ave.
Besides these new lines added, there have been made some changes in three bus lines: U1, S2 and C6.
In case of U1 that carries out journey between Aynadamar Campus and Cartuja Campus. When it gets to Carretera de Alfacar turns directly to Cartuja Campus, because the service to Parque Nueva Granada to get to hospital zone is made by line SN5 and the universitary is made by line U3. This way, frequencies will be shorter.
There is also a change in line S2- Villa Argaz-Palacio de Congresos (Congress and Exhibition Centre)- that will modify a part of its itinerary, between Camino bajo de Huetor, in junction with Sancho Panza, to Callejon del Pretorio, and now gets to Primavera, crossing through Fontiveros square when it gets back.
Finally, there is a change in C6 line that connects Rosaleda with Traumatologia. So, when it gets back through Severo Ochoa to district of Rosaleda, the turning to Rector Lopez Argüeta and Gran Capitan has been supressed, and made by new line SN5.
